Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul: A Luxury Namsan Staycation (Pool Room Review)

For a special occasion in Seoul, it’s hard to beat Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul — a luxury resort tucked into the forest of Namsan, right in the middle of the city. It’s the Singapore-based Banyan Tree group’s first urban resort, and its signature feature is unusual: every guest room has its own pool.

We came for a one-night birthday staycation in a Namsan Pool Room, and it was exactly the kind of quiet, green escape that doesn’t feel like it should exist a few minutes from downtown Seoul. Here’s the full review.

Where it is & why it’s special

Banyan Tree sits on a huge forested plot on Namsan, the mountain at the heart of Seoul (you’ll recognize N Seoul Tower on the ridge). It’s a Forbes-listed, award-winning property — but the real draw is the setting: floor-to-ceiling windows frame the seasons of Namsan from almost everywhere.

The room: a private in-room pool

This is the headline. Banyan Tree’s rooms come with a private relaxation pool right inside the room, set against a wall of glass looking out over the Namsan forest. By day it’s all greenery; by night, N Seoul Tower glows on the hill.

A nice touch for us: it was a birthday stay, and little thoughtful details throughout made it feel like an occasion (more on the birthday dessert in the dining post).

The Oasis: the new outdoor pool

In 2026 Banyan Tree opened The Oasis, an exotic outdoor pool deck surrounded by Namsan greenery, complete with private cabanas. It runs seasonally — roughly May through mid-October — so it’s a summer highlight. We caught it in the evening with the city lighting up behind the deck.

Indoor pool, jacuzzi & spa

For year-round swimming there’s a serene indoor pool with adult, child, and infant sections, plus a jacuzzi — all under a sculptural wooden ceiling. It’s calm and almost empty, which is the whole point.

Fitness & wellness

The fitness center is large and properly equipped (Technogym machines, free weights), and there’s a bright yoga/stretching room that opens onto the forest. Easy to keep a routine, or just stretch out with a green view.

Breakfast

Breakfast is à la carte with both Korean and Western options. The Korean sets — like a sizzling eel rice pot with banchan (side dishes) — were the standout, but the Western plates (eggs Benedict, fresh bread) were solid too.

Small luxuries & views

Service touches stood out — even a delivery robot brings room-service items to your door. And the views never stop: an open deck looks straight at N Seoul Tower at night, and the daytime city panorama is gorgeous.

Tips for foreign visitors

  • You can book as a regular guest — you don’t need a club membership to stay.
  • Ask about the room’s in-room pool when booking (the “pool room” types are the signature experience here).
  • The Oasis (outdoor pool) is seasonal — roughly May to mid-October. If that’s why you’re coming, check it’s open.
  • Location: on Namsan, it’s a quiet, green setting slightly removed from the street grid — plan a taxi rather than expecting to walk from a subway exit.
  • It’s a genuine splurge, but for a honeymoon, anniversary, or birthday, it’s one of the most memorable stays in Seoul.

And the dining…

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Festa by Choonghu, deserves its own post — it’s run by one of Korea’s youngest-ever Michelin-starred chefs. I cover the full course dinner (and our birthday dessert) separately:

The verdict

Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul is expensive, but it delivers something genuinely rare: a private in-room pool, a forest-and-tower view, and total calm — all in the center of Seoul. For a celebration, it’s worth it.
